If it wasn't for bad luck, the Chicago Blackhawks would have no luck at all. This season was filled with hopes and aspirations of taking a huge step forward. After the team drafted Connor Bedard first overall last summer, the Blackhawks had hopes that they're rebuild was finally heading in the right direction.
Unfortunately this year the Blackhawks have faced nothing but challenges. Those challenges got much more difficult after last night when both Connor Bedard and Nick Foligno sufferer injuries resulting in them being placed on injured reserve. The Blackhawks current roster of injured players is significant.
Currently missing 10 players from their opening night roster, the Blackhawks have been forced to turn to the waiver wire and of today claimed former second round pick. Curtis Sanford.
Sanford is a former second round pick selected 61st overall in the 2013 NHL draft by the Washington Capitals. In his NHL career, he has played 316 games and scored 49 goals and added 51 assists for career total of 100 points. At this point in the season it is no longer about offensive production or being competitive. It is simply about being able to ice a roster.
For the Blackhawks, the all-star break cannot come soon enough as the team hopes to find some sort of health for a second half that could be even more challenging than the first. The Blackhawks currently sit second last in the NHL with just 24 points.
