Edmonton Oilers bench Jack Campbell only 3 games into the season
Jack Campbell was supposed to be the Edmonton Oilers big offseason acquisition. The veteran goaltender was expected to come into Edmonton and provided stability in goal. Unfortunately after 7 goals in less than 4 periods, Campbell is already riding the bench.
On Saturday night Campbell gave up 4 goals on 10 shots in 11 minutes against the Calgary Flames. At that point Jay Woodcroft pulled Campbell and elected to play Stuart Skinner. Skinner came into the game and shutdown the Flames the rest of the way.
Now it appears Woodcroft is going with the goalie who gives him the best chance to win, that is Skinner.
The Oilers opting to start Skinner against a team that Campbell is very familiar with isn't a very positive sign early in the season. The Oilers will likely say that this was a scheduled start for Skinner, but most coaches want to get their starter back into the net sooner than later.
Will a strong start by Skinner set off the goalie controversy early?
