The Edmonton Oilers activated the highly skilled and controversial winger Evander Kane making him available for tonight's game against the Seattle Kraken. To complete this move the team had to do some cap maneuvering.

Edmonton placed both Kailer Yamamoto and Ryan Murray on long-term injury reserve. These moves clear up nearly $4,000,000 in cap space for the Oilers to activate Kane.

Like many teams Edmonton is at the cap limit. They are looking to clear some space, letting teams around the league know that underperforming forwards Warren Foegele, Jesse Puljujarvi, and Derek Ryan are available.

The 26-year-old Foegele is signed through the end of next season with a cap hit of $2.75M AAV. In 32 games this season he has 4 goals and 8 points while averaging 12:29 in ice time.

The fourth overall pick from the 2016 draft is having a real tough go this season. Puljujarvi's confidence seems shattered. In 45 games the 24-year-old has 4 goals and 10 points while averaging 12:47 in ice time. He has a cap hit of $3,000,000 AAV and will be a RFA with arbitration rights at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old Ryan has a cap hit of $1,250,000 AAV and will be a UFA at the end of the season. In 43 games Ryan has 5 goals and 9 points while averaging 10:37 in ice time.

General Manager Ken Holland will certainly want to upgrade his roster as the March 3rd trade deadline approaches. Someone in the bottom half of the roster is getting moved to free up space. The questions that need be answered are who and when?
