Embarassing attendance at the World Juniors continues, attendance number revealed
The re-start of the 2022 World Junior Championship started on august 9th. Most were expecting poor attendance for a few reasons, the controversy surrounding Hockey Canada at the moment and the fact that it's being played in the middle of summer, but I don't think anyone imagined attendance would be as low as it has been over the first four days of tournament play.
According to Puck Report, the total number of fans that were in attendance across both WJC games played yesterday was just 489. That number on its own is staggeringly low, however fans only came for the night game yesterday. No one was in the crowd to watch Austria Vs Sweden.
The attendance at the World Juniors had already been abysmal before yesterday, this is a new low though. This attendance is extremely embarrassing for everyone associated with the tournament.
In my opinion, they're in no position to host an international hockey tournament right now, and the fans are hitting them right where it hurts, their pockets.
Day 5 numbers didn't prove to be any better.
