Embarrassing blown call leads to a goal
NHL referees have been under fire for a string of terrible calls, it seems like every night leads to another blown call. Tonight during the Islanders versus Red Wings game it appears the referees may have forgotten their whistles at home.
Only 9 seconds into the game, Anders Lee slashed the stick out of the hands of Filip Hronek. Lee then took the puck and fired a cross ice pass that Anthony Beauvillier was able to bury the puck for the goal. The referee was in perfect position to call the penalty, but the referee somehow didn't see anything wrong with the play.
Hronek was visibly upset by the play, but the damage had already been done. The Islanders led the game 1-0 at the end of the 1st period.
