Embarrassing photo that Gary Bettman doesn't want fans to see, shows awful terrible all-star game attendance
Last night the NHL held their annual skills completion at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The annual event, which features the NHL's most talented players, is supposed to highlight the league's most skilled players. Showcasing their talents for the hockey world to see.
This year's game in Florida was supposed to highlight the success of the NHL's Florida markets, but instead it just highlighted the lack of interest. This season the Panthers attendance has sat around 82%, or 27th in the league in average attendance. Last night that attendance issue was on full display during the skills competition, which left large segments of seats empty.
Gary Bettman continues to push his agenda for Southern teams being viable markets, but those markets continue to let him down. This photo shows just how bad the attendance truly was.
According to reports, fans in attendance were eventually moved down to fill sections to help visibility. But this reportedly led the upper decks to remain empty.
These photos show one of two things. Either the lack of interest in the All Star Game or the lack of interest in hockey in this market. Something tells me though Gary Bettman will declare this weekend a resounding success.
