With free agency less than 48 hours from now it looks like one of the cornerstones of the Pittsburgh Penguins' franchise is about to leave the Steel City come Wednesday when free agency opens.
According to Darren Dreger of TSN, Evgeni Malkin is going to test the free agent waters for the first time in his career come Wednesday.
Malkin, 35, has felt disrespected by the Pens front office during contract extension talks, but it sounds as if his patience has run out and with it, the Penguins opportunity to re-sign the Russian winger
Malkin can still play, even at his age putting up 42 points in 41 games played last year including 20 goals and 22 assists.
Malkin has been with the Penguins franchise for his entire career, and with his career winding down, why would he not try and cash in on what could be his final NHL contract.
