Sean Monahan of the Calgary Flames will be undergoing season ending hip surgery. Calgary Flames announced that the 27-year-old has been placed on long term injured reserve effective immediately. Monahan has been on a steady decline for the past 3 seasons. Monahan is a former 30 goal top line centre having done so as recently as the 2018-19 season.
This season he has only managed 8 goals and 23 points in 65 games. This is by far his worst season of his 9 year professional career. This year has spent time on the 4th line as well as being scratched for a few games.
It seems as though we now know a major reason for the drastic decline in Monahan's game. Playing through this has clearly taken a huge toll on the players ability to be effective. The Flames hope that the surgery on his hip will help him get back to the player he's been for them in the past.
