Florida Panthers make another trade after losing Aaron Ekblad for the season
The Florida Panthers have been VERY busy over the last week. The Panthers acquired both Ben Chiarot and Claude Giroux, to help the team make a run for the Stanley Cup. The only downside to their last week was the significant injury suffered by Aaron Ekblad.
Ekblad collided with teammate Sasha Barkov during a game in Anaheim and he was left clearly in a bad state. Ekblad couldn't put any weight on his leg as he made it to the bench.
Today the Panthers announced they'll be placing Ekblad on Long Term Injury Reserve with a season ending injury.
I'm told Aaron Ekblad will be placed on LTIR and will not return during the regular season, but sometime during the first round. So cap space is no issue for #FlaPanthers.
Expect them to be active - and maybe use that space (after Hagg deal) to attempt to recoup some picks.
The Panthers didn't wait long to find help on their backend as this morning they traded for Buffalo Sabres' defenseman Robert Hagg.
This season for the Sabres, the 27-year-old Hagg has 8 points in 48 games. Hagg had spent his entire career with the Flyers before this season.
The expected return is a 5th round pick.
