This seems to have been a disaster from the very beginning. There were a lot of complaints when the NHL recently released the design for the 2024 NHL All-Star Jerseys, and the latest leak is making the total package look even worse.
The above shows all we've seen of the 2024 All-Star Jerseys so far, and it looks like they were designed by the same person who did costumes for the original Power Rangers. Now, the Florida Panthers have listed two of the sweaters on their website, one for Bobrovsky and the other for Sam Reinhart, which shows the font used for the names and how they'll be placed. If this is indeed how it's going to look, there's no other word but ridiculous.
The icing on the cake for this monstrosity is the price tag: $290 USD. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't take a hard pass on these. The font looks like something I'd expect a Lego hockey team to use, not the NHL. It's very Disney/McDonalds-looking, which is fine for them. It looks really out of place here, though.
The NHL has promised a revamped Skills Competition at the 2024 All-Star Weekend that it has said is based on feedback from fans who wanted to see actual skills being showcased. It's too bad they didn't let fans see these before buying them to get feedback on them. If the font and placement in the picture from the Panthers' website are anything other than placeholders for the real thing that has yet to be released, this is a huge swing and a miss.
