It's been less than a week since the NHL has given veteran forward Corey Perry the all to clear to re-sign an NHL contract with any team of his choosing. Since then the rumours have taken off on where the tenacious forward will take his talents next.
The Chicago Blackhawks terminated Perry's contract on Nov. 30, 2023, following an undisclosed incident deemed unacceptable by the franchise.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was on the Jeff Marek show and shared his thoughts on the chances of Perry signing in a Canadian market like the Maple Leafs or Oilers. Friedman feels like Perry would prefer a quieter destination instead of a pressure cooker market like Edmonton or Toronto.
I feel like this has the state of Florida written all over it. Perry could go back to the familiar surroundings of Tampa where he played for two seasons. The Panthers are another team that Perry would fit perfectly in. The roster is made up of tons of players that play Perry's style like Nick Cousins, Matthew Tkachuk, and Sam Bennett.
While Perry will continue to wear the question mark of what happened in Chicago the rest of his career and beyond, his accolades speak for themselves. Perry is a winner and at the end of the day it's what matters most.
