The New York Rangers seem to be imploding slowly as the season progresses. Head coach Gerard Gallant seems to have lost the respect of his players and scratching a 1st overall pick might've just been a way to put him on the trading block.
Alexis Lafreniere might be on his way out of town, according to Ali Murji. Although a deal doesn't seem to be too close at this time, teams are inquiring.
The return for Lafreniere is speculated to be at least a a first round pick and/ or a top end player in a deal involving the young forward.
Lafreniere, 21, has been underwhelming for the hype surrounding him as he entered the National Hockey League, but he's still be a pretty serviceable forward at the games highest level.
In 36 games for the Rangers this season, Lafreniere has 5 goals and 12 assists for a total of 17 points. In primarily a bottom 6 role, he's been playing well.
Friction with the head coach might spell the end of Lafrenieres time in the Big Apple. Maybe a fresh start will be better for the young forward. Sometimes, all players need is a change of scenery
