Ian White is proof positive that even if you experience tragedy there is still hope and you can get back to where you once were.

The thirty-eight-year-old veteran of 503 National Hockey League games has signed a contract to continue his career with the ECHL's Norfolk Admirals.

This isn't Whites' first stop this season in professional hockey as the defenceman played 19 games for the Federal Professional Hockey Leagues Motor City Rockets. In 25 games for the Rockets, he contributed 19 points.

White, who was homeless as recently as two years ago, stepped away from the game for five years while dealing with some daemons. It has been reported that after White's career in the National Hockey League ended, he became heavily dependent on pills which in part was due to an injury to his leg that required surgery. At that time, he was prescribed Oxycontin and never stopped using them.

We at Blade of Steel wish White all the best moving forward.
