Do you remember former NHLer, Steven Kampfer? No, well the former NHL player is now playing in the KHL, and recently he shared some news about a former NHL coach. Kampfer is one of the few non-Russian players who hasn't left Russia over the past month.
Kampfer, revealed he was once involved in a verbal battle with former NHL coach, Bob Hartley. Hartley is now coaching in the KHL. Kampfer and Hartley had trashed talked each other as their teams battled it out during the KHL playoffs.
Defenceman Steven Kampfer - who played for the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, and the New York Rangers in the NHL - is now a member of Ak Bars Kazan. His team was involved in a first-round series against Avangard Omsk, Hartley's team.
Hartley was a well respected coach in the NHL and won a Stanley Cup as bench boss of the Colorado Avalanche in 2001but after being fired went and coached elsewhere ending up in the KHL.
Kampfer revealed in one of the games that Bob Hartley actually threatened to send someone from Avangard after him, but never explain why. There's always two sides to every story, but it is known that Hartley did have a hot streak. Hartley was never afraid to verbally engage with players.
Kampfer shared this about Hartley:
Hartley yelled at Kirill Petrov, who was injured. I told him to stop yelling at our player, and when I pulled up to the bench, Bob said: 'You're not so tough, I've got guys on the bench who will go after you.'
When asked by the media if that was true Hartley denied it. While Kampfer continues to claim it occurred.
Then I told the press about it after the game and Hartley called me a liar. Although we have video evidence of what Bob actually said.
I think it's a low act, I don't care if it's tactics or whatever. Telling a player that he will be hunted down is a low thing.
Only they know what actually happend, but this is crazy story.
