While much has been said by the Chicago Blackhawks regarding the Corey Perry situation and the termination of his contract, the league itself has stayed mostly silent. Until now.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has now weighed in on the situation and said he's completely fine with how Chicago handled the investigation into the incident and the outcome. Bettman also said he hasn't yet decided whether Perry will require a hearing before he returns to the NHL, if someone is willing to sign him.
"Bettman says he is comfortable with results of Blackhawks investigation into Corey Perry, has not determined if the player will need to have a conversation/hearing with him to return."
The part regarding the hearing or conversation is interesting. When Joel Quenneville resigned as an NHL coach over the Kyle Beach Blackhawks scandal, it was stated in no uncertain terms that he would need to be reinstated by Bettman if a team was looking to hire him again. While there has been tons of speculation, Perry's return to the NHL does not seem imminent at this point. If any kind of conversation or hearing with Bettman is made public, it's a sure sign that he's on his way back.
