Gerard Gallant compliments one rookie while taking a shot at another
The New York Rangers prospect pipeline is full of great players and Braden Schneider is one of them.
During a press conference Gerard Gallant complimented the young defenseman, for putting in his time in the AHL last season, after making the jump from the WHL from the Brandon Wheat Kings. Schneider would spend 22 games with the Wheat Kings, 24 in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack before finally being called up to finish the season in New York.
Schneider would make himself a useful part of the lineup during the Rangers playoff run against the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Schneider wouldn't hesitate to make an impact early, as his first NHL goal came against the San Jose Sharks on January 13th.
The rookie spent the majority of his time paired with Patrik Nemeth but also had Ryan Lindgren, Zac Jones, and Justin Braun, but Nemeth was paired with the rookie for 59% of his 5-v-5 minutes, compared to the rest at 11%.
As much as this is a compliment to Schneider, it's just as much a shot at Nils Lundkvist who was traded last week. Lundkvist had no interest in working his way onto the team and wanted to be gifted a spot in the lineup.
