Wednesday night, the Carolina Hurricanes took a 2-0 series lead over the Boston Bruins. Even though Antti Raanta was injured, the big story of the night was the hit that Andrei Svechnikov laid out on Hampus Lindholm.
Late in the second period, the Bruins' Hampus Lindholm carried the puck behind the net with his head down. Andrei Svechnikov came down the middle of the ice and caught the unsuspecting Lindholm with a huge hit. Svechnikov hit him so hard that he broke Lindholm's stick.
Svechnikov didn't receive a penalty for the hit but was given a two minute roughing penalty, along with Brandon Carlo for the scrum that followed. When Hampus Lindholm tried to get up, he couldn't get his bearings and had trouble standing up. Fortunately Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark was there to try and keep Lindholm from hurting himself more. Lindholm left the game and did not return, with a suspected concussion.
After the game when Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy was asked about Lindholm, all he said was that the defenceman was not doing well. I would be surprised to see him play again this year after a hit like that.
