Heavyweights drop the gloves for a monster tilt in New Jersey
The crowd was treated to a great tilt tonight in New Jersey. The Devils were hosting the Philadelphia Flyers. With the scored tied 1-1 Michael McLeod stepped up to fight known tough guy Nicholas Deslauriers. .
Deslauriers was taking over early with McLeod landing a few of his own. Deslauriers probably won on the score cards but McLeod showed a ton of gumption stepping up a few weight classes to fight him.
The 12th overall pick from the 2016 NHL draft has scored 3 goals and 12 points in 29 games this season. McLeod took a long time to find an NHL role. After putting up big numbers in junior he has transitioned into more of a defense-first center.
The 31 year old Deslauriers doesn't put up many points. His best season came in 2017-18, when he scored 10 goals and had 14 points in 58 games for Montreal. He's provides physicality and energy. If he happens to find a way to chip in offensively, that's just a bonus. In 30 games he has scored 1 goal and 5 points along with 57 penalty minutes. Deslauriers signed a 4 year contract with Philadelphia with a $1,750,000 AAV.
