The IIHF World Championships wrapped up this afternoon with Canada facing Finland in the gold medal game. Finland would go on to win the gold medal by a score of 4-3 in overtime, but, perhaps there was a moment early in the third period that could overshadow Finland's victory.

With four minutes gone in the 3rd and Canada already on the penalty kill, Cole Sillinger took a high sticking penalty or did he?

Finnish defender, Miro Heiskanen high sticks himself in the face, the ref at centre makes the call and everyone on the Canadian bench becomes livid. Listen, it sucks, but abysmal officiating has taken centre stage in the NHL playoffs and now at the highest level of international competition. At what point are on ice officials going to be held accountable?

Oh, and on the ensuing 5 on three Finland scores to tie it.

I'm tired of officials taking centre stage and having a direct impact on any game no matter the importance. At what point will we either demand more from on ice personnel?
