The NHL Trade Deadline is set for March 3rd, but that hasn't stopped many teams from trying to get a jump on things. The Montreal Canadiens are at the bottom of the National Hockey League standings this season, likely not moving for the remainder of the year. As such, they're in on Connor Bedard. You'd think in order to insure that they have the best possible shot at getting him, they'd sell almost everyone on the current roster, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

According to TSN and NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens have turned down a first round pick for forward Josh Anderson

Anderson, 28, has played in 47 games for Montreal this season collecting just 17 points including 14 goals and 3 assists. I would bet that's the best offer you're going to get for Anderson, it won't be long before he regresses even further and then, when you want to move him, you'll have to settle for much less.

If the Canadiens really wanted to compete for Bedard, they'd sell every asset the team has in an effort to tank. Adding another 1st round pick in an extremely deep draft would have been a very smart move.
