The Toronto Maple Leafs season has been filled with injuries, and today those injuries got just a little bit worse. The Maple Leafs announced that they will be without franchise center, Auston Matthews for the next three weeks due to a sprained knee that occurred during Wednesday's game against the New York Rangers.

Injury update:

Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews will be out of the lineup for a minimum of three weeks due to a knee sprain suffered in Wednesday's game vs. NYR.

The 25-year-old has 25 goals and 53 points in 47 games this season after winning the Hart Trophy last season after posting 60 goals and 106 points in 73 games. Selected 1st overall in the 2016 NHL Draft, Matthews has 284 goals and 510 points in 454 career games.

Captain John Tavares took Matthews' spot on the top line with Mitch Marner and Michael Bunting in Friday's morning skate to prepare for the Ottawa Senators. Pontus Holmberg took Tavares' spot between Calle Järnkrok and William Nylander.

Due to the All-Star break Matthews is only expected to miss between 7-10 games.
