Just twelve games into the regular season and things are not going as planned with Edmonton Oilers goalie Jack Campbell. Campbell gave up six goals this afternoon in a home loss to the Dallas Stars. So far this season Campbell has five wins and three losses. A bad save percentage of .873 and a goals against average over four. It is safe to say that this was not what the Oilers were hoping from with their new goalie.

Even Campbell himself has admitted that start to the season was «pathetic.» At least Campbell knows there is room for improvement and hopefully he gets things turned around quickly. Recall that Campbell was a big free agent acquisition of Edmonton. They were looking at Campbell as a long-term solution to their goaltending woes. Campbell signed a five year twenty five million dollar deal.

Campbell might also be feeling some pressure from Edmonton's other goalie Stuart Skinner. Skinner has started less games and started the year as the backup, but his numbers are much better than Campbells. As a team, Edmonton is allowing three point five goals per game so their team defense could also use some improving. It would be unfair to blame Campbell for all of Edmonton's defensive troubles, but he needs to be much better. And quickly. Will the Oilers turn to Stuart Skinner more consistently ? Time will tell.
