Over his illustrious career, Wayne Gretzky set multiple records. Many of which will never be broken. To this day Gretzky is considered the Greatest player of all time. But it appears Alexander Ovechkin had a legitimate chance of breaking one of those records.
In 2004 the Washington Capitals drafted young phenom, Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin was billed as one of the most talented goal scorers to ever be drafted and he hasn't disappointed since joining the NHL. Despite all the hype Ovechkin has actually surpassed expectations. Heading into next season Ovechkin is 115 goals away from breaking Gretzky's record.
NHL Legend, Jaromir Jagr recently commented on the likelihood of Ovechkin breaking Gretzky's record:
Earlier, I thought Ovechkin didn't have any chance to break Gretzky's goal record. It was six years ago. But Alex has changed and became a better and more effective hockey player than when he was in his youth. I think he works harder now. He'll be able to break Gretzky's record if he can stay healthy and keep working as hard as now.
