It was a disappointing end for the President's Trophy winning, Florida Panthers. After having their best season in franchise history many believed this could be their year. Unfortunately it wasn't.
For players like Joe Thornton, the defeat was extra tough to swallow. After a Hall of Fame worthy career, the Stanley Cup continues to allude him. Thornton turns 43-years-old this summer, so this may have been his last opportunity to win a Cup.
Thornton addressed the potential end of his career at his year end media availability.
My wife was kind of asking me last night. And really, I have no plans. It's kind of exciting that way. I came here to win a championship and we fell short of that. But I think the Florida Panthers are going to be good for a long time. It's exciting around here now. I've been privileged to play this game for a long time. don't take anything for granted.I never think what-ifs,' to be honest with you. I just try to live in the moment and go from there.
If Joe Thornton does retire he will go down as one of the best players ever to never win a Cup.
