Over the weekend, Connor McDavid cross-checked rival Canucks forward Conor Garland to the face, and on Monday, he learned his fate with the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Given that many feel the punishment should have been different for McDavid and Vancouver's Tyler Myers, fans in Edmonton haven't been too happy, and according to a recent report, No. 97 himself isn't too pleased either.
According to a report, McDavid is considering cutting back on NHL promotional events throughout the year and leading into the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament, with the claim that the NHL need to protect their stars better on the ice.
On one hand, this can be seen as one of the NHL's biggest stars trying to influence the NHL's decision making via a major threat, but on the other hand, the belief is that he has a point, with star players wanting to be treated much better on the ice.
However, McDavid has been criticized plenty for his lack of personality, so while the NHL love to get him in promotional material, this could give them a chance to try and push others in his place.
Ultimately, it's unclear how true this report is and how far McDavid's camp will take it if it is indeed true, but he did deserve a suspension for a blatant cross-check to the face, so it's unlikely that this will have any major impact on Gary Bettman and how decisions are made going forward.
