Joe Thornton officially retires after 24 NHL seasons

Hanging up the skates is always a deeply personal journey, and for a person like Joe Thornton, he wanted to leave the game as quietly as he could, but it looks like his career has finally come to an end.

According to the San Jose Sharks on X, Thornton has officially called it a career after an incredible 24 seasons in the National Hockey League; take a look.

What a career. And what a character !

Thornton, 44, played for the Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers during his storied career. With all of it being said and done, Jumbo Joe skated in a total of 1,714 games, scored 430 goals and added 1,109 assists for a total of 1,539 points.

Thornton announced his retirement in only a way he can, tarps off, gliding into the sunset without a care in the world.

Congratulations on a great career Joe! You deserve it.
