Kent Hughes shares hilarious story from his first trade deadline
This was Kent Hughes' first trade deadline as an NHL General Manager. Hughes had previously been one of the most notable NHL Player Agents, having negotiated contracts for players like Patrice Bergeron and Kris Letang. During his post trade deadline press conference Hughes shared a funny comment he received from one of the other GM's he was negotiating a deal with.
Oh so NOW the salary cap means something?!
This comment clearly comes from a General Manager that had previously negotiated with Hughes, and likely makes light of the fact that Hughes was unwilling to retain salary long-term in any transactions.
Hughes had a very successful first trade deadline as he was able to move Tyler Toffoli, Ben Chiarot and Artturi Lehkonen for substantial returns. It is beginning to very much look like the Montreal Canadiens made the right decision with who they hired for their General Manager.
