The Dallas Stars have announced on Twitter on Tuesday that back-up goaltender Anton Khudobin has undergone a surgical procedure, essentially ending his 2021-22 campaign.
Khudobin, 35, had a right hip arthroscopy and labral repair on Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The surgery was performed by Dr. Brian Kelly.
According to the Dallas Stars, the expected recovery time for the netminder is expected to be at least 6 months, which could force Khudobin to miss some or even all of training camp in September.
Khudobin has played 9 games this season for the Stars. Owning a record of 3-4-1, with a save percentage of .879% and a 3.63 GAA - both the lowest of his NHL career.
With the trade deadline ahead, this likely forces GM Jim Nill to retain backup Braden Holtby - if he believes the Stars can contend for a playoff spot that is.
