Kyle Dubas continues to prove he's learned nothing after his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs
Kyle Dubas developed a reputation during his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs of being a very loyal GM. Unfortunately for many he was loyal to a fault, continuing to provide unlimited changes to his players. Dubas also remained committed to his style of hockey, which was often seen as small and skilled.
With the Maple Leafs shifting their focus as last season's deadline to get tough, many felt Dubas may have finally figured it out. Today however, it appears that Dubas has learned nothing from his time in Toronto. Earlier today it was announced the Penguins had signed Vinnie Hinostroza to a contract.
Tonight, Dubas showed once again his loyalty to one of his former players.
The Penguins have signed forward Andreas Johnsson to a one-year contract.
The contract runs through the 2023.24 season and carries an average annual value of $800,000.
During his time in Toronto it was rumoured the Carolina Hurricanes had requested Andreas Johnsson in exchange for taking on Patrick Marleau's contract. However Dubas refused to include Johnsson, and instead preferred to give up a 1st round pick. That pick eventually turned into Seth Jarvis.
One thing is for sure, Dubas remains committed to his style of play. But without Brendan Shanahan in place to shoulder the blame, Dubas needs to figure out if his style will work or not.
