Lou Lamoriello tries to justify his terrible off-season and lack of moves
After signing Noah Dobson, Alex Romanov and Kieffer Bellows, Lou Lamoriello held his media availability today. During which he was asked multiple questions by the media. As always Lou was very guarded about some topics and open about others.
One of the most prominent questions asked of Lamoriello was about the lack of moves made by the franchise during the summer. After reportedly making offers to both Johnny Gaudreau and Nazem Kadri, Lou came up empty. But Lamoriello reached into his bag and offered up the following answers.
Sometimes some of the best transactions you make are the ones you don't make.
There's no disappointment where we're at because we feel very good about who we are, or we would have made drastic changes [this off-season]. We're looking forward to getting back at it and maybe proving everybody wrong.
While Lamoriello claims he's not disappointed, Islanders fans feel differently. After a summer where they fired their Head Coach, many expected the team to take a big swing to try and compete next year. With only 1 year remaining on Mat Barzal's contract, many Islanders felt this might be the teams last chance to compete.
Only time will tell if the minimal moves made will be enough, but in a jam packed division, featuring the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes the Islanders have a lot of ground to cover to make the playoffs.
