Today the New York Islanders announced the signings of 3 contracts. The Islanders made the signings official or Kieffer Bellows, Noah Dobson and Alex Romanov. After the signings Lamoriello made himself available to the media for the first time this off-season.

After addressing his signings Lamoriello was asked about the future of two veteran defensemen. Last season Lamoriello signed both Zdeno Chara and Andy Greene to provide a veteran presence to the Islanders blueline. Today though it appears Lou plans on going in a different direction.

Lou Lamoriello said Zdeno Chara and Andy Greene are not currently considerations for defense roles for next season's #Isles teams. No discussions with them.

This is a different approach compared to what Lou has taken in the past. It appears that Lou is finally willing to take his team in a younger direction, something he's not known for.

With the lack of interest from the Islanders it will be very interesting to see what decision Chara makes about his NHL future, but it appears the future Hall of Famer is running out of options.
