Mark Scheifele throws a temper tantrum shooting puck after the whistle and hitting the referee
Mark Scheifele is a very emotional player and sometimes those emotions get the best of him. That's exactly what happened tonight as the Washington Capitals faced off against the Winnipeg Jets.
As the puck heads deep into the Washington zone it appears Scheifele is able to beat out the icing. Unfortunately the linesman saw the play differently and called icing on the play. Scheifele was clearly upset by the call, but what he did next nearly got him ejected.
Scheifele turns at the puck and fires it hard. The puck sails up the ice and strikes the referee directly in the leg. The referee immediately points at Scheifele and signals him to the box.
The referee opted to issue Scheifele with a 2 minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct. Scheifele is lucky to have not received either a 10 minute misconduct or an abuse of officials penalty which could have saw him removed from the game.
