The Toronto Maple Leaf appear like they are about to lose a member of their 'Core Four'
The Toronto Maple Leafs are playing some of their best hockey in recent years. Through the first half of the National Hockey League season heading into the Holiday Break, the Leafs sit 2nd in the league.
With that comes the start of the rumours as is common with the media, there's one member of the Core 4 that might be on his way out the door. William Nylander has been the centre of trade rumours since the moment he was drafted 8th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2014.
The 26-year-old who has played at, at least a half point per game throughout his 473-game NHL career is playing his best hockey during the 2022-2023 season at 1.15 points per game. As good as his numbers have been, he may be playing himself out of a new contract with the Maple Leafs who may look to trade him over the offseason rather than risking watching him walk as a free agent after next season.
The Maple Leafs will also need to figure out a new contract for Auston Matthews, so it will be interesting to see what happens next. If you were Kyle Dubas, what would you do?
