When Johnny Gaudreau left the Calgary Flames it truly altered the clubs plans. The Flames were believed to be just a couple pieces from being contenders, but now they appear like they could be entering a full rebuild instead.

With Matthew Tkachuk a restricted free agent it appears he's unwilling to sign a long-term contract with the team and is instead opting for a one year deal. The one year deal though would make Tkachuk an unrestricted free agent next summer. That's something the Flames just can't afford.

Now less then 24 hours since filing for team elected salary arbitration it appears that the Flames are now looking to trade Tkachuk and quickly.

Eric Francis today on 101 ESPN in St. Louis said that he expects a possible Matthew Tkachuk trade to be wrapped up within the week. He said it was clear to him the two are parting ways.

If the Flames do opt to move Tkachuk, which it appears they will it is expected he would likely only be willing to sign a long-term extension with a few teams. The St. Louis Blues are considered the heavy favourite for Tkachuk's services, but Tkachuk has ties to both the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs as well.
