Auston Matthews scored his 55th and 56th goals of the season last night to help his team beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 in overtime. Matthews scored his 55th in the 2nd period to become the franchise leader for goals in a season passing Rick Vaive (54).

After the game reporters were asking him all sorts of questions surrounding the achievement. To Matthews credit he stayed humble and remains focused on the team's goal of going on a deep playoff run this spring.

Matthews was quoted saying:

We're working towards something bigger than this. There's still work to be done.

When looking at the roster, the defense has never been deeper. The goal scoring hasn't been an issue. It's really the goaltending that is the biggest question mark heading into the playoffs. Leafs' fans are hoping Jack Campbell can get his play back to the way it was from October-December.

The saying rings true for the playoffs. Your best players have to be their best if you want any success. With Matthews being so focused on the bigger picture than his own historic achievement it could be a good sign for things to come for the Blue & White.
