Max Domi almost followed in the footstep of his dad by signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs
In a year of re-tooling the bottom 6 while mostly being devoid of a real shakeup after mostly staying the course and making no big moves, Kyle Dubas general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs offered this depth forward a contract.
Domi- a name of familiarity with Maple Leaf's fans as Tie, Max's dad and an enforcer did some time in Toronto,
Dubas looked to Max Domi to try to bring him into the organization during the off-season.
But apparently, it wasn't meant to be, according to Max Domi:
The Chicago Blackhawks offered Domi a 1-year deal at an AAV of $3 million, with an organization in a rebuild, they need the veteran presence and also a need to hit the cap floor, as they continue to tear the team down to rebuild a new foundation.
It also helps that Luke Richardson is the head coach of the Blackhawks, as the Canadiens connection helps. Domi on his last two teams, was not an impact player is currently experiencing a resurgence in Chicago.
Max Domi was a stud last night. He had three points (one goal, two assists) and won nine of 12 faceoffs. I went over to NHL.com after the dust settled from the game on Thursday night and looked at the league's faceoff leaders. Among players who have taken at least 60 faceoffs thus far, Domi leads the NHL at 66.4 percent. And, for what it's worth, Jonathan Toews ranks tenth at 60.9 percent. Those two leading the way at the dot is a big reason the Blackhawks have been able to drive play and compete almost every night.
Another casualty of Dubas running the Maple Leafs against the salary cap.
