Matthew Tkachuk Shuts Down Crazy Idea From NHL Analyst PK Subban With Honest and Clear Response
NHL analyst PK Subban asked Matthew Tkachuk if he would ever consider playing for team Canada, prompting the Panthers forward to give an honest response.
Specifically, Subban was asking about the Four-Nations tournament which will be held in Montreal and Boston next month.
Tkachuk has already been named to team USA, as the rosters for team USA and Canada were announced last month.
The Panthers alternate captain figures to be a huge part of team USA as he is one of the most prolific scorers on the team.
He has 14 goals and 39 points through 38 games this season, and 618 points in 628 career NHL regular-season games.
He already has two medals with team USA in international events, at the 2015 and 2016 World Junior Championships.
He will be looking to add to those medals next month as team USA heads into the Four-Nations tournament as the favorites to win the event.
Perhaps this is why Subban was trying to convince him to join team Canada last night during a mid-game interview.
Luckily for American hockey fans, and much to the chagrin of Canadians, Tkachuk shot down the idea faster than a slap shot from Alex Ovechkin.
"No, never in my life. I'm American. I would never play for them, that's been, I'm as American as it gets."
And why shouldn't he? After all, it is a big deal for these players to get the opportunity to represent their home countries in international events.
Not all NHL players will be so lucky as only the USA, Canada, Sweden, and Finland will be participating in the tournament.
As such, all of the Russian, Czech, Slovakian, German, and other NHL players will enjoy a brief vacation in the middle of the season, but most of them would probably rather be at the event too.
Be sure to tune in next month to see which country will earn the gold medal.
