Hockey Player Terminates His Contract After Mis-Reading How Much Salary He Would Be Paid
Professional hockey player James Shearer, playing in Hungary, has terminated his contract after he mid-read how much money he would be paid.
Canadian defenseman James Shearer has parted ways with Ujpesti TE of Hungary's Erste Liga, having only played two games for the club.
A misplaced impression regarding the terms of his contract would appear to have been the reason. According to reports, Shearer and his agent believed an annual salary that was in the contract referred to monthly pay.
The mistake was reportedly realized by Shearer and the club; they mutually agreed to void the deal.
«James Shearer is leaving. The Canadian defender arrived at the end of December and played in two matches. Unfortunately, he has to leave for reasons beyond our control. Shearer's agent called after his first match, because he had overlooked the offer and then the contract, but in the current situation, the salary is not to their liking. He would like to receive the amount that the club offered until the end of the season on a monthly basis. This salary requirement is not realistic for a legionnaire playing in the Erste Liga, so it did not fit into either our ideas or our budget, so the contract ended up being terminated. We regret that it turned out this way, we trusted that we had signed a useful player through an agent who has already sent several players to the Erste Liga, so he is aware of the salaries here. We wish James continued success in his career!»
Statement from Ujpesti TE
The 27-year-old started the year in the ECHL, skating with the Utah Grizzlies, before joining Ujpesti TE. He has inked a deal with the Guildford Flames of the UK's EIHL.
