Montreal Canadiens announce the 1st overall selection in the 2022 NHL Draft
The Montreal Canadiens horrendous season was rewarded by winning the NHL Draft Lottery. The Canadiens finished the season 22-49-11 for a total of 55 points. This was the worst season in franchise history and of the course of the year the Canadiens had more man games missed than any other team.
The prize for winning the Draft Lottery was one of 3 incredible prospects. Shane Wright, the 17-year-old from the Kingston Frontenacs, Juraj Slafkovsky, the 18-year-old from Slovakia or Logan Cooley, the 18-year-old from the US National Development Team.
All three players have the tools to be franchise cornerstones, but it will come down to who the Canadiens value most.
In the last hour the odds of the Canadiens selecting Wright changed significantly through some betting platforms.
But it all came down to the moment of truth and the Montreal Canadiens opted to select Juraj Slafkovsky.
Slafkovsky had 10 points on 31 games playing for TPS Turka of SM-liiga
