The Montreal Canadiens seem to be turning a corner as a franchise under their new leadership group. The group consists of Vice president of Hockey Operations, GM Kent Huges and interim head coach Martin St. Louis.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens could be a significant player in this year's free-agent period, beginning on July 13th this year.

LeBrun also mentions that while the Canadiens are looking to get younger in some areas, they want to bring in some key franchise cornerstones to continue their rebuild around. Martin St. Louis will be a crucial piece in trying to recruit star free agents to a rebuilding Canadiens' team that see, to now be headed in the right direction finally.

What I find interesting here is, if the Canadiens acknowledge that coach Martin St. Louis will be a central figure in helping the Canadiens rebuild, why does he still have the interim tag? I get it, they're waiting for the off-season to extend St. Louis, but the interim title has always bothered me, especially in this instance.

I'll end with this: now that Montreal appears to be on the right track and healing from the Marc Bergevin era, who would you like to join the Canadiens? Personally, if Filip Forsberg hits free agency this year, I could see that as a great potential fit with the new look Habs.
