Montreal Canadiens trying to move forward before training camp
Jonathan Drouin was a big piece in the Mikhail Sergachev trade between Tampa Bay and Montreal in 2017-2018.
In his first two seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Drouin put up respectable numbers, 99 points in 158 games.
After the 2019 season, Drouin fell off in production, which would be a result of personal issues as explained below:
After his return from a leave of absence, he maintain the level of production from his 2020-2021, unfortunately.
It looks like his time in Montreal may be over, as a result of 3 lackluster seasons with the Habs.
Maybe a change of scenery is a beneficial idea for the winger who seemed to have so much upside. Drouin is only 27 years old, and his current contract contains a modified-no trade clause, so it will be interesting where Kent Hughes sends the winger.
It is unfortunate we won't get to see a reformed, Drouin under Martin St. Louis, but with a $5.5 Million cap hit, perhaps they can manage to get some assets out of the deal.
It looks like Steve Yzerman won another trade.
