Multiple players claimed off waivers, another top 5 pick placed on waivers today
Yesterday NHL teams placed over 30 players on waivers ahead of the regular season. Once a player is placed on waivers teams have 22 hours to place. Of all the players placed on waivers claims were placed on the following players:
Ottawa claims goalie Magnus Hellberg off waivers from Seattle.
Calgary claims Radim Zohorna off waivers from Pittsburgh. The Ottawa Senators have opted to claim Magnus Hellberg, this after announcing that Cam Talbot would be out 5-7 weeks with an upper body injury.
The Flames also claimed 6'6, Radim Zohorna, this is a claim that makes people scratch their heads. The Flames already have a large number of depth forwards in their roster and may need to waive Zohorna shortly themselves.
Among those on NHL waivers today: Olli Juolvei (ANA), Alex Barre-Boulet (TB), Gemel Smith (TB), Kevin Stenlund (WPG). Juolevi is the most notable player on this list. Having been drafted 5th over all by the Vancouver? Canucks much more was expected out of the young defenseman. Unfortunately, he is never been able to crack an NHL lineup on a regular basis.
