In last night's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and LA Kings, Leafs' forward Pierre Engvall was assessed a game misconduct penalty and a 5 minute major for high sticking Kings' defenceman Sean Durzi.

Battling for a puck, it's clear that Engvall's stick makes reckless contact with the back of Durzi's head. It's possible this could be accidental, but it makes no difference to the league rules - players need to be responsible for their sticks at all times.

For what looks to be a light swing at the back of Durzi's head, Pierre Engvall has been suspended for one game.

Durzi was not injured on the play, and continued on for the rest of the game, even garnering boos from Leafs fans.

After the game, Leafs' coach Sheldon Keefe commented on the suspension. In his comments, he denies any ill intent on Engvall's part, and actually plays on a criticism of Engvall that he could use his size more.

You've all watched Pierre play for long enough now to know he doesn't play with an intent to injure
