NHL Department of Player Safety makes a surprising decision about Alex Edler's hit on Connor McDavid
During the second period of last night's game Alex Edler delivered a questionable hit to Connor McDavid. On the play Edler received a 2-minute penalty for kneeing. This hit was eerily similar to the that cost Zach Hyman 2 months of his season in 2021.
The Oilers were furious with the hit as they felt it was an intentional knee-on-knee hit.
Many felt that Edler should face supplemental discipline for the intent on this play. But it appears the NHL has opted to not discipline Edler. Chris Johnston shared the following.
Now the question is did the NHL make the right call? Does Edler deserve to be punished for his intent or should the NHL only punish results?
