NHL makes official announcement about Matthews' cross check
During the Heritage Classic Game, Toronto Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews let his temper get the best of him as he retaliated to Rasmus Dahlin's crosscheck with a crosscheck of his own. The only problem? Matthews' crosscheck targeted the head and neck area of Dahlin.
While many similar crosschecks have gone unpunished it appears that Matthews won't be so lucky. As this evening not even 3 hours later the league has already announced that Matthews will have a hearing for his crosscheck.
Matthews currently leads the league in goals with 45, sitting 6 goals ahead of Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers. If Matthews is to miss games it will make winning back-to-back Rocket Richards Trophies that much more difficult.
