The best time to send out a news story you don't want to draw too much attention to is on a Friday night. That's exactly what the NHLPA did when they announced that Don Fehr will be out as Executive Director this summer.

Don Fehr has been the Executive Director since December, 2010. He had to negotiate through two collective bargaining agreements in 2013 and 2020. Fehr has done a fairly good job during his time with the NHLPA but after what happened with Kyle Beach, it seemed like it was time for a change.

The NHLPA also announced the players who will be involved in the committee who will be conducting the interview process and search. Ian Cole (Carolina Hurricanes), Justin Faulk (St. Louis Blues), Sam Gagner (Detroit Red Wings), Zach Hyman (Edmonton Oilers), Kyle Okposo (Buffalo Sabres), Nate Schmidt (Winnipeg Jets) and Kevin Shattenkirk (Anaheim Ducks).

There have already been some front runners mentioned as to who will be Fehr's successor. Matthieu Schneider who is the special assistant to Don Fehr, Glenn Healy the NHL Alumni Association President, Ex-Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis who is currently working as a consultant to the NHLPA, player agents Ian Pulver and Allan Walsh.

The Committee will provide a progress report to the Executive Board of the NHLPA at the summer meetings in July.
