Looking back at the Evander Kane signing, things have worked out perfectly for the Edmonton Oilers. Given his track record there was always going to be some reservations by many about the move. Kane has kept his head down, his mouth shut and done what so many people have told him to do over the years. Just play hockey.

The signing couldn't have come at a better time for the Oilers who were struggling mightily. After the signing of Kane and firing of Dave Tippett they've completely turned their season around. Once at risk of missing the playoffs, the Oilers now find themselves getting ready to host the Los Angeles Kings in the 1st round.

Evander Kane has proven to be a valuable player since arriving. He has scored 22 goals and added 17 assists in the 42 games he's suited up in since, joining the team. This has many wondering, do the Edmonton Oilers see Evander Kane being in the teams plans long-term?

According to TSN's Darren Dreger , the Oilers will be trying "as hard as possible"to extend his contract. He also said the same about New YorkRangers forward Andrew Copp, who was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets last month.

Well I can tell you that both the New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers are going to try as hard as possible to extend the contracts ofAndrew CoppandEvander Kane. Now, there's no guarantee, of course. These guys are both pending top unrestricted free agents.

InAndrew Copp, talk about a chemistry experiment that has been highly successful. Perfect fit withArtemi Panarin. AndEvander Kanehas been an excellent complement on the left side withConnor McDavid. But you do have to go through the negotiation.

I'm told the New York Rangers are going to push hard hard to extendAndrew Copp, we can understand why. Likewise forEvander Kaneand the Oilers. But you wonder about the term between Kane and the Oilers. Is three years too much? We'll have to find out.

Kane was a huge part of the Oilers making the playoffs and made an instant impact. So don't be surprised to see Oilers' General Manager, Ken Holland making a move or two fit Evander Kane's salary in the team's plans next season.
