Nashville Predators shared emotional video of their top prospect being told he made the team
Cody Glass' NHL career has been full of peaks and valleys. He was the first draft pick of the Vegas Golden Knights franchise going 6th overall in 2017. Known for his extremely high hockey IQ, a strong two way game, and creative playmaking he was poised to be a break star for the expansion franchise.
Glass made his NHL debut with Vegas on October 2, 2019 where he recorded his first NHL goal on his first NHL shot attempt.
He was having an up and down first season in the NHL, at times playing big minutes. When adversity struck in March of 2020 after a handful of injury issues, Glass' season ended when he underwent knee surgery. As he was dealing with the immediate aftermath of that operation, COVID hit. Not only was the hockey season paused, but the young player was separated from his family who couldn't visit him in Las Vegas during his long rehab.
It would be over a half a year later before Glass would step back on the ice again.
Just as he was getting back, he was part of a deal that sent him to Nashville for Nolan Patrick in the summer of 2021. He started the next season with the Predators but after a handful of disappointing games he was sent to the AHL where he would spend most of the 2021-2022 season. He was almost a point per game player in the AHL scoring 14 goals and 62 points in 66 games.
At this time of the year players are getting called into the office for the good or bad news. GM David Poile called Glass in to let him know, he made the team and was joining them on the flight to Prague for the NHL Global Series. Glass is obviously emotional in the video, wiping tears from his eyes as he receives the good news.
It's great to see a young player overcome a litany of injuries and continue on with his dream of playing in the NHL. Hopefully Glass can transition his minor league success into a great season in 2022-2023.
