A couple of weeks ago, New Jersey Devils' General Manager, Tom Fitzgerald shared he wasn't opposed to getting creative with his 1st round draft pick. But that was before the Devil's moved up to the 2nd overall pick through the draft lottery.
Many believed that would end the conversation for Fitzgerald, but according to Elliotte Friedman that doesn't appear to be the case. According to Friedman the Devil's plan is to be a better team next year and to not necessarily wait for draft picks to pan out.
The expectation is that the Devil's have multiple players in mind that they'd be willing to part ways with the 2nd overall pick for. The Devil's have been linked to multiple teams in the past and are rumoured to be interested in trying to add a significant goaltender.
My expectations would be the Devil's may look at a player like John Gibson or Connor Hellebuyck, but may also consider someone like William Nylander should the Maple Leafs choose to move a member of the Core 4.
This is bound to be an interesting off-season for New Jersey.
