Odds revealed for where Auston Matthews will sign next, some surprising teams on the list
Auston Matthews is scheduled to become the biggest free agent in NHL modern history. Matthews contract with the Maple Leafs expires July 1st of 2024. After signing a 5-year deal with the Maple Leafs, Matthews is poised to cash in.
Now almost 2 full years out from Matthews becoming a free agent, Bodog has released their betting odds on where Matthews will sign. While the top 2 locations are unsurprising the rest of the list has some interesting names on it.
Toronto Maple Leafs -1000
Arizona Coyotes +550
Florida Panthers +1500
Tampa Bay Lightning +1500
Seattle Kraken +1800
The Toronto Maple Leafs remain a very heavy favourite to re-sign Matthews, with the Arizona Coyotes following in a distant second. It is very surprising to see both Florida teams and the Seattle Kraken so high on this list.
Either way it appears Matthews is poised to become the highest paid player in NHL History, that is until Connor McDavid becomes a free agent himself.
